Guru-Puja

Guru Puja is an inspiring festival celebrated in the Hindu tradition. It is an auspicious day for worshipping our guru. It is celebrated on the day of Vyas Poornima or Guru Poornima. Guru = Gu + Ru. ‘Gu’ means darkness or ignorance and ‘Ru’ means the remover. Guru means someone who remove darkness or ignorance. What are qualities of a Guru? Guru is like Lord Brahma because he creates the character in children.

The Guru is like Lord Vishnu because he protects the good qualities in his students. The Guru is like Lord Shiva because he destroys the bad habits and bad qualities of his children. Guru Shishya Relationship: It is a spiritual relationship where knowledge is transmitted from the guru to the shishya. This relationship is based on genuineness of the guru and the respect, commitment, devotion and obedience of the shishya. It is the best way for knowledge to be conveyed. The student eventually masters the knowledge that the guru embodies.

Gurus help us realize our true potential. Examples of Guru- Shishya relationship are: • Krishna - Arjuna • Ramakrishna - Vivekananda • Chanakya - Chandragupta • Vishwamitra - Ram/Laxman Who is your Guru ? Have you found your Guru ?
