The lotus is the symbol of truth, auspiciousness and beauty (satyam, shivam, sundaram).
Lotus is the national flower of our country. It is said to represent long life, honor, good fortune and triumph. Lotus can live both in fresh shallow waters and in muddy swamps and can re-germinate for thousands of years symbolizing survival and purity of heart, mind and soul in all conditions. Lotus is often depicted as the seat of Gods and is often used by worshipping and religious practices.
The lotus leaf never gets wet even though it is always in water. It symbolizes the man of wisdom (gyaani) who remains ever joyous, unaffected by the world of sorrow and change.
It also symbolizes Brahmaloka, the abode of Lord Brahma. The auspicious sign of the swastika is said to have evolved from the lotus.
